Bill and I set out to explore the Rio Hondo bike path and unfortunately spent so much time looking for the entrance we didn’t get to ride as far as we’d planned. We found 2 entrances. The first at the Peck Road Water Conservation Park, 5401 N Peck Road, about 1/2 block south of Live Oak, in Arcadia.
The second entrance, (which we liked better), was located further north, on Live Oak Avenue in Arcadia. The address is 620 E. Live Oak , next to the Arcadia Golf Course which had plenty of parking and was a great place to begin our ride.
Who knew there was such a beautiful park and that the Rio Hondo was so clean and sparkley!
Ducks swimming, kids fishing and the sun just keeps on shining.
Tooling south along the river bed along a very clean and mainly flat path we only spotted a couple of other riders.
The path is right on the landing path of the El Monte airport.Thee planes flew right over us on their landing approach. An observation park gave us a chance to both rest and watch the planes as they took off. Fantastic!
Since we were basically running out of time we were only able to ride about 3 more miles south before turning back. Next time we’ll go all the way to Whittier Narrows.
The view of the San Gabriel’s as we headed north was as always, magnificent!
